Our Mechanical Testing Capabilities

Verify that your metals, welds, or fasteners meet strength and performance requirements. We provide accredited mechanical testing across our ISO/IEC 17025:2017 laboratories in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, with additional support from our Brunei office.

Designed to help engineers and QA teams confirm that materials perform as specified, we test specimens rigorously for tensile strength, hardness, fatigue life, and fracture behaviour. As part of our mechanical testing of composite materials, we work with carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex grades, nickel alloys, aluminium, and more.

Mechanical Testing of Steel and Composite Materials

Structural beams, pressure vessel plates, pipelines, rebar, and offshore components all require verified mechanical properties before entering service. Our mechanical testing of steel covers tensile, hardness, fatigue, shear, and fracture toughness evaluation, including tests at sub-zero temperatures.

For projects involving multi-material assemblies, clad plates, or bonded joints, PTS also supports mechanical testing of composite materials through tensile, shear, and compression testing configured for non-standard specimen geometries.

Types of Mechanical Testing

The nine tests above fall into a few broad categories based on what they measure:

  • Strength and load capacity: Tensile, compression, proof load, and miniature tensile tests
  • Ductility and formability: Flattening and flaring tests
  • Fatigue life: Fatigue tests under cyclic loading conditions
  • Hardness: Rockwell, Brinell, Vickers, and Knoop methods
  • Shear and crush resistance: Shear tests and crush resistance tests

Not sure which types of mechanical testing apply to your project? Get in touch with our specialists with your required standards, code, or specifications, and we’ll recommend the right test scope for you.

Standards and Accreditation

PTS performs mechanical testing to ASTM (A370, E8, E23, E10, E18, E92, E384), ISO (6892-1, 148-1, 6506, 6507, 6508), and BS EN standards. All laboratories hold ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from SAC (Singapore), DSM (Malaysia), and KAN (Indonesia).
