REVEAL DEFECTS BY FLATTENING METHOD
The flattening test is a method used to test the deformation performance of a metal tube flattened to a specified size and show its defects.
Our expert testing team will test the ultimate plastic deformation ability and collapse deformation of seamless steel tubes under given conditions without crack defects. The principle is to apply the length of the seamless steel tube to the specified length of the sample or seamless steel tube end. According to the pressure, the distance between the two plates under the action of force can reach the value specified in the relevant product standards.
Mainly performed on sections of seamless and seam-welded pipes, flattening tests demonstrate the ability of a test specimen to withstand plastic deformation as its circular cross-section is flattened between two platens without any visible cracks or defects. The degree of flattening is quantified by the distance between the two platens and is determined concerning relevant product specifications.
To determine the quality of a seam weld, the position of the seam weld is placed 90 degrees from the point of flattening, thus subjecting the seam weld to immense stress.
Application of flattening test
Detect microscopic internal and external flaws
Able to test the transverse weld ductility on the exterior surface
