SLIDE TO REVEAL THE STRENGTH OF Reinforcing Bar & Wire Mesh
Find out how resistant your materials are to slip-and-slide with the best shear strength testing machines from Professional Testing Service.
A shear test is designed to apply stress to a test sample so that it experiences a sliding failure along a plane parallel to the forces involved. Shear tests differ from tension and compression tests in that the forces applied are parallel to the two contact surfaces, whereas, in tension and compression, they are perpendicular to the contact surfaces. Generally, shear forces cause one surface of a material to move in one direction and the other surface to move in the opposite direction, so the material is stressed in a sliding motion.
The most common measurement obtained from a shear test is the shear strength which is the maximum load a material can withstand in a direction parallel to the face of the material, as opposed to perpendicular to its surface. It is also possible to measure the shear modulus, the shear strain, and the shear yield stress when performing shear tests
Importance of reinforcing bar
Reinforcing bar, known as Rebar, supports concrete structures, such as buildings, bridges, and roads, to make them stronger and more durable. In addition, it helps to resist the effects of tension, compression, and bending forces, making concrete structures more resistant to damage and collapse.
Our shear testing team in PTS can determine your Rebar’s strength by testing the Rebar’s capacity to resist shear forces and ensure that your Rebar is strong enough for your construction project.
Below is the list of mechanical tests we offer for reinforcement bar testing
Tensile Test
This test measures the resistance of the rebar to an applied tensile load and is used to determine the tensile strength and ductility of the rebar.
Bend Test
This test measures the resistance of the rebar to an applied bending load and is used to determine the rebar’s bending strength and modulus of rupture.
Fatigue Test
This test measures the resistance of the rebar to repeated loading and is used to determine the fatigue strength of the rebar under cyclic loading conditions.
Rebar Geometry Test
The test is to ensure that the rebar meets the required specifications and standards in terms of size, shape, and surface condition.
APPLICATION OF SHEAR TEST
Determine the shear strength of an adhesive that is applied to two metal plates
Used to compare adhesive types
Specimens are cut and prep per ASTM standard
