HOW ARE EN 10204 3.1 AND 3.2 CERTIFICATES IMPORTANT FOR STEEL MANUFACTURING?
The manufacturer should release the mill test certificate to the buyers upon purchasing seamless pipe, pipe fittings, or steel plates.
The mill test certificate contains all the specifications of the steel pipe products, including dimensions, sizes, weight, chemical composition, mechanical strength, heat treatment status, test result, traceability etc. This information ensures the product can meet industry-imposed regulations and standards and that the correct chemical compositions are used.
The EN 10204 standard specifies the different inspection documents provided to the purchaser following the order’s requirements for delivering all metallic products.

1) EN 10204 3.1 CERTIFICATE
The manufacturer must show the actual test result for the steel pipes on sale according to the standard sampling methods. EN 10204 3.1 certificates are endorsed only by the manufacturer’s representative, who has to be independent of the manufacturing process, such as the Quality department or a test house manager/supervisor.
If a steel pipe manufacturer passes the audit for ISO 9001, they have the qualification to release the EN 10204-3.1 certificate. If it fails, they do not have the right to release the certificate.
2) EN 10204 3.2 CERTIFICATE
For EN 10204 3.1 certificates to be upgraded to type EN 10204 3.2, it requires an independent third-party inspection agency to verify the test results. The name of the manufacturer and the buyer shall be specified on the quality certificate of EN 10204-3.2.
EN 10204-3.2 certificate must be released by a certified inspection agency to certify that the test result is the same as the purchase order from a third-party inspection agency.
